POISON and Firebombs Against civilians-Something doesn't add up.
Agent Orange & Napalm- The killers of innocents
Agent Orange and Napalm are used to fight the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese army when they are in South Vietnam. That means that both of these terrible substances are used on the villages and jungles of South Vietnam to try and force the Viet Cong out of hiding, but because the Viet Cong could be any citizen the bombs and chemicals are dropped over huge areas of land. Whole villages could either be burned down or made uninhabitable in a day because of the effects of Agent Orange and napalm. This means that IF villagers aren't in their homes at the time of the attack they won't have a home or possessions to "come home" to when they return, but there is a good chance that the villages have the elderly and very young, because they cannot work, and they would be caught directly in the attack on the village. There people in the village (which we are supposed to be protecting) will likely be killed or grievously injured during the attacks. Even if they survive, Agent Orange would poison their crops, animals, and water making them all inedible. Napalm could, and probably will, burn all crops and kill some animals caught too close to the blast, but it wouldn't poison the water like Agent Orange.
Agent Orange has some of the most devastating effects on the environment and life in general that can ever come from a "herbicide". Direct exposure can kill all life and it can poison the survivors so that they bear the scars and effects for the rest of their lives. The environment can also help spread Agent Orange to more areas, the wind will blow it and the water can carry the toxin, this allows the poison to reach more areas than the original spray zone. This spread by nature is unexpected, but quickly started to become exploited by the military, because now they could harm many more people with less toxin by choosing to spray on days with more wind or in different areas. Thanks to this exploitation thousands more children now have to scavenge for scraps, and those scraps could very well be tainted anyways. Agent Orange is barely researched, so it's effects (beyond the immediate) are totally unknown. It could be causing deadly and horrific birth defects and environmental issues generations down the line. Our grandchildren might still be cleaning up our mess with this toxin 50 years down the road. While Agent Orange does affect the Viet Cong it also doesn't discriminate who it harms or kills, our own men and civilians have been harmed, and killed, by the same poison that is supposed to be helping them. Is it really worth the civilian damage (to the people we are supposedly protecting!) to get "rid" of the Viet Cong? I don't think so. Soldiers now have to fight through toxic lands. We are hurting our own men with Agent Orange. We are hurting innocent civilians with Agent Orange. South Vietnam is crying out to us to end this torture, but we won't listen.
Agent Orange's long lasting effects may be totally unknown but napalm only works in the present time. Napalm is basically liquid fire; it is a gel-like substance and a fuel mixed together and then lit on fire. It can burn at temperatures of 1,000+ degrees. Napalm used to only be used in flamethrower like devices to help our soldiers burn down some of the jungle to expose the guerrilla fighters but now napalm is also dropped in bombs. These bombs are devastating. Napalm bombs have wiped thousands of villages off the map, and will continue to do so until the war is ended. Just like Agent Orange, napalm will burn, not poison, anything in it's path. One of the scariest things to hear is, "Here come bombs....It's NAPALM!" The ensuing chaos is a true representation of the destruction that these bombs cause. Children will run away as fast as possible, but they don't know where to go so they end up running in circles screaming in terror. Mothers will try to almost shepherd their children away as fast as they can, often times clutching bundles of belongings or babies to their chest. No matter who you are you just want away from the bombs and the fire they contain. The flames can burn almost any substance, and are extremely difficult to put out. The bombs have the same purpose as Agent Orange, to unearth Viet Cong guerrillas, but they might be even more effective (when comparing civilian casualties to actual Viet Cong killed) than Agent Orange. Victims of Agent Orange have a better chance of survival than victims of napalm. Napalm is essentially a death sentence for anyone who is close enough to catch fire. Almost always our soldiers get prior warning about the napalm bombs, so there aren't many American casualties due to napalm, but civilians get no such warning. The Viet Cong can be hiding in any village, anyone can be working with them, just because a farmer smiles at Americans during the day doesn't mean that he won't go out that night with a gun to hunt down those same soldiers to take revenge for his family that was killed by a napalm dropped by the American military. Napalm burns down huge areas of South Vietnam everyday, pretty soon there won't be anything left to burn.
Both Agent Orange and napalm are extremely deadly and are killing thousands of South Vietnamese everyday. Would you want your own children to bear the scars from a napalm fire, or the unknown effects of Agent Orange? I highly doubt it. Those are the things South Vietnamese face everyday. In America it was appalling for a student group to propose killing a dog with napalm and Agent Orange, but then supporters of the war want us to believe that killing people is ok? Just because they aren't American doesn't make them less human. Innocents are innocent, and the South Vietnamese citizens are innocent as a whole. We promised to protect them, so listen to their pleas and end this slaughter of their people.
